Teaching speaking skills
My perspective of teaching just one language skill is to concentrate just on it, so I like to create activities straight to the development of that skill, I mean, if it is this one (speaking) I try to make students speak in the whole lesson; at first present to them a topic about phrases or words that they will need (according to their level) to start to hold up a conversation with others, without explaining to them each part of the phrase or the why of each part, and like that, students would learn to speak but without knowing the kind of words, the reason for the structure, and so on.
I did my pedagogical practices in a group of English beginners, so they didn't know much of the correct way to speak, I mean, to use the correct articles, prepositions and the proper way to speak in each verbal time, and the most important, they also, didn't know a good number of words, so, I think is hard to develop this ability to those kinds of students from my perspective of teaching this language ability, because they can't even speak, because they do not have the vocabulary to do it.
I tried to do it on my way, but because of their matter, I couldn't, so I had to bring up grammar matters. Now, from my experience teaching speaking skills or trying to teach it and observing ESL learners, I could realize that is not accurate to point out the grammar when teaching just one skill, no matter if your students do not have accurate vocabulary manly, we got to find a way (approaches or/and methods) to develop just the skill that you as a teacher or they as learners are looking for, no matter the circumstances.
